Voyant has announced its intention to bring true broadband service to commercial airline passengers in flight. Along with partner companies such as Harris Corporation, Voyant intends to design and deliver a system-level solution that will deliver unique content and a full suite of broadband service to passengers in flight at a disruptive price point. Passengers will be more productive, connected, and entertained during their travels, while airlines will enjoy greater customer satisfaction and new revenue opportunities.

Voyant believes that providing in-flight broadband services to the commercial aviation sector represents a multi-billion-dollar market opportunity, and it is this sector that the companies initially intend to serve. Follow-on potential markets could include general aviation, military aviation and Homeland Security applications.

Voyant is drawing on its intellectual property and expertise in the field of wireless technologies to produce novel, remotely configurable, broadband radios operating in the spectral region from 174 MHz to 1 GHz. Of particular interest are the recently-auctioned lower and upper 700 MHz bands, the soon-to-be-available white space spectrum (which represents over 200 MHz of valuable bandwidth in the VHF/UHF band), and the 900 MHz unlicensed bands.

The first of Voyant’s next-generation radios will be a custom-designed white space radio (WSR) used for “green,” energy-efficient, utility and power management. This flexible WSR design can easily be adapted for a host of new, high-capacity, long-range and reliable wireless services, including so-called WiFi 2.0 applications.

Voyant applauds rulings by the Federal Communications Commission to auction off underutilized portions of the radio frequency spectrum with a proviso for open access use. More information about the impact of these FCC rulings on Voyant is available here.

A wholly-owned subsidiary of Voyant, RocketStream designs and delivers software technology to accelerate and manage rich-media transfers over IP networks such as the Internet. The combined suite of technologies is comprised of tightly integrated components based on RocketStream's proprietary packet protocols, data encryption technologies, and transport acceleration.

The initial RocketStream product suite is a powerful, all-software solution designed to deliver large, rich-media datasets efficiently over regional and international broadband networks where latency and packet loss constrain TCP/IP's performance. RocketStream intends to embed its technology directly into the software of third-party suppliers, as well as into other Voyant products. These external applications, powered by RocketStream™, will gain enormous utility and immunity to network latency, thereby greatly enhancing their value and the value of the end-user’s digital assets.
